The RSPB Investigations company has two jobs in Scotland, and is looking for enthusiastic, systematized and committed individualities to join us in helping insure a better future for our wildlife. There are currently providing two jobs in Scotland in this company. This is a rare occasion to join a devoted company in the fight against wildlife criminality and to really make a difference!

Across Scotland, our magnific birds of prey continue to be immorally bedeviled, with some of our rarest species similar as golden eagles, hen harriers, red kites and peregrines regularly targeted. These two places will be centered on fieldwork, with the ambition of detecting, recording, analysis and dispersion of information on wildlife crime, particularly in relation to precedence species and territories.

The successful candidate will need to be grounded in Scotland for job and prepared to travel throughout the Scottish heights and sometimes further afield. Some evening and/ or weekend work may also be needed.

What is the job about?

Expertise, Knowledge And Experience:

  • A degree in ecology or conservation and/ or applicable practical experience.
  • Capability to take over demanding fieldwork in remote localities, whether alone or as part of a small company, in all rainfall and over rough terrain.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of wild birds, with experience in raptor monitoring.
  • Knowledge of Scottish wildlife protection legislation.
  • Knowledge of RSPB’s Investigations company precedences and work.
  • Experience of practical conservation delivery in support of species & territory conservation.
  • Proven IT expertise including MS Office software especially Excel, Outlook and companies.
  • A confident and personable manner, suitable to liaise professionally with enforcement mates, and also to handle reports of wildlife crime with understanding and empathy, occasionally in sensitive situations.
  • Full, manual driving license, valid in the UK.
  • Knowledge of gamebird operation practices.
  • Experience of specialist software eg Civilians.
  • Experience of working with Police norms for information operation/ stylish practice, and/ or statutory agencies, media, or law enforcement mates.
  • Knowledge of data protection regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of satellite transmitters to cover birds of prey.
  • Confident speaking in public eg. giving donations, media interviews or giving substantiation in court.


We’re looking to fill two places as part of this vacancy

  • One is a endless position working 37.5 hours per week;
  • The other is a fixed- term contract until 31 March 2025, also working37.5 hours per week. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this part endless without farther advertising dependent on business requirements at the end of the contract term.
